Dr. Nicole Byers joins Dr. Tamara Soles in a presentation about somatic symptoms- those symptoms that may be physical in nature like headaches but without a clear medical cause. Students will learn how somatic symptom disorders develop, how to screen for them, and ways to support individuals with somatic symptoms. Presenters also explore how these symptoms may show up in everyone’s lives, particularly in the current culture of “Busy”. Issues of treatment expectation, placebo effects, the culture of busyness and the negative and positive stress are also explored.
