Dr. David Paul and Dr. Tamara Soles explore using Prolonged Exposure (PE) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The instructors introduce the elements to each approach, challenges, complications, and therapists’ attitudes as they relate to treating PTSD. In addition to reviewing imaginal and in-vivo exposures for PE and the steps involved in CPT, the differences between approaches is discussed as well as how to identify which approach is better for a client.

Course Description

Dr. David Paul and Dr. Tamara Soles explore treating PTSD using Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Processing Therapy. The instructors introduce the elements to each approach, challenges, complications, and therapists' attitudes as they relate to treatment.

Instructor's bio

Dr. Paul completed a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology at McGill University in 2009. He worked as Clinical Coordinator at the Veterans Affairs Canada Operational Stress Injury Clinic in Edmonton from 2009 to 2012, and as a Clinical Psychologist with the Department of National Defence between 2013 and 2018. Dr. Paul’s primary clinical focus is the treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) using empirically validated cognitive-behavioural therapies. He is certified as a Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapist, Supervisor, and Trainer by The Center for the Treatment and Study of Anxiety at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Paul also has training and supervision in the use of Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to treat PTSD. Other areas of expertise include Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, and behavioural and cognitive-behavioural treatment of panic, social anxiety, worry, phobias, insomnia, depression, and body-focused repetitive behaviours (e.g., trichotillomania, skin-picking).

How to Take the Course

You will be prompted to create your login information and then be directed to the course curriculum where you will have access to the episode, the learning objectives, and the post-test. Once you successfully complete the post-test, your CE certificate will appear on screen and can be downloaded. You can listen to the course episode directly on the course website or on your favourite podcast app.

How to Get Your Certificate

After listening to the course episode, you will be prompted to take the multiple choice post-test. To receive your continuing education credit certificate, you need to achieve a score of 70% of more. You may retake the post-test up to three times. Once successfully completed, the certificate will appear in your course area where you can download it.
